Neuropathology will be a specialty in the UK
I am delighted to inform members that the UK Departments of Health have  approved the application from BNS/RCPath to allow Neuropathology to have full speciality status. This greatly strengthens the position of Neuropathology in the UK and will allow us to improve recruitment, training and assessment in our "new" speciality. Much more work will be required over a challenging timescale in order to fulfil the requirements of the General Medical Council for the creation of a speciality in Neuropathology; more information on this will be forthcoming shortly, after which your further assistance will be required.

I am most grateful to everyone in BNS who has helped us achieve this success, along with the President and other colleagues in RCPath. In particular, I would like to thank Dr John Xuereb for his tireless efforts on this most important matter, which have been critical to this favourable outcome.

Best wishes,

James W Ironside CBE FRSE
Immediate Past-President, BNS

ARRIVE Guidelines

Animal Research: Reporting of In Vivo Experiments (ARRIVE) guidelines

The ARRIVE guidelines have been endorsed by the British Neuropathological society.  The ARRIVE guidelines are currently endorsed by almost 200 journals (the full list can be found on our website - www.nc3rs.org.uk/ARRIVE), major funding bodies and a growing list of learned societies.

These guidelines were developed as part of an NC3Rs initiative to improve the design and reporting of biomedical research using animals and were published in the online journal PLoS Biology in June 2010 (http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pbio.1000412).
